Match Report by Finbarr Hayes
Sunday's final in Energia park was a fitting close to the season for this group of players.
Having worked hard throughout the season and losing in the league semi final to eventual winners Barnhall RFC this was an encounter with added meaning for the team.
The conditions were perfect and suited an open style of play. Blackrock were led out by captain Alex Mullan and vice captain Matthew Thompson.
Blackrock set out their stall from the opening minutes, attacking Newbridge at every opportunity.
They continued to press right through the half with combination of powerful runs from their forward and fast paced attack from their back line.
Blackrock led 17-5 at half time.
Both teams started the second half with high intensity rugby, neither gaining the upper hand. Newbridge scored a try late in the second half to bring the scoreline to 17-10. But Blackrock would not be denied and continued to threaten the Newbridge try line on several occasions and were only held out by resolute defense.
The game finished with Blackrock deserved winners.
Tries scored by Alex Mullan, Harry Alderton, Luke Hayes, conversion by Jed O'Malley.
