Blackrock College RFC are delighted to announce that in partnership with the IRFU, we will be one of the many clubs hosting a Girls Give It A Try summer programme this summer!
We will run this year’s programme over four weeks down in Stradbrook, in the home of Blackrock College RFC. Our GIAT Programme will commence on Tuesday the 11th of August at 6 – 7pm and run every Tuesday thereafter, up until the 1st of September.
What is Give It A Try (GIAT)? GIAT is a 4-week (usually 8 week – shortened due to Covid-19) programme run in selected clubs where girls aged 8-14 years can attend in order to learn how to play rugby in a fun environment. The programme consists of a coach education element, fun rugby sessions, teaching the girls the basics of rugby. The clubs are responsible for the running of the programme in their area but with Provincial Branch and IRFU assistance.
Who can apply? Any girl aged between 8 and 14 years! No experience of rugby or sport required!
How can I apply? Due to Covid-19, our enrolment procedure is a little different to last year. If you are interested in participating in GIAT you will need to fill in the following two online forms: 1. Personal Assessment Declaration Form (click link)– this form will help to ensure the safety of all participants and coaches while adhering to both club and IRFU Covid-19 safety guidelines. 2. Participant Registration Form (click link)– this is our general registration form. This is to ensure we have all necessary information for each girl (e.g.) allergies, medical conditions, emergency contact details etc.
What is the cost? The programme will cost €10 for the full 4 weeks. We ask that this be brought on the first night in a sealed envelope.
Who will be coaching? Our coaches in Blackrock will be members of our Senior Women’s squad. Many of these players have International and Interprovincial experience and can’t wait to get started coaching and enjoying rugby with the next generation! Each of our coaches are Garda vetted.
For further information contact our head coordinator Hannah on 086-1002757. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
