The Men’s J1 side had an epic first round of the Metropolitan Cup at Stradbrook on Thursday, 14th March.
As one of the Premier 2 Division sides facing Premier 1 Division sides in the first round, the odds were already stacked against our J1's. To be drawn to face Lansdowne, reigning Metro Cup and Premier 1 league champions, the odds were understandably against us.
At half time we trailed 7 - 19. That score genuinely didn’t reflect what had been a tight game, but Lansdowne certainly deserved their lead and if it had not been for multiple instances of heroic defending, we could have trailed by more.
Four minutes into the second half, Lansdowne struck immediately with a converted try to make it 7-26 and likely to all it was looking like our day might be done!
However from that point on, Rock absolutely dominated the game. They scored three converted try’s and held a battling Lansdowne side scoreless for the rest of the half to win against all of the odds 28 - 26.
Next match is a quarter final on Sunday, 24th March in College Park v Trinity, who were joined 2nd in the Premier 1 League.
We look forward and hope to see another gigantic battle. All support welcome!
