4 April 2023
Hello everyone,
The weekend just passed kicked off with our J1 Quarter Final of the cup being postponed due to excessive surface water on the bottom pitches. This game has now being refixed for Tuesday evening the 11th in Stradbrook v DLSP.
Luckily with a lot of effort from Conor Cleary and his team, the main pitch managed to survive the deluge and was passed playable. Before the match against Dolphin, a crowd of 200 people gathered for a lunch in honour of Joe and John Mc Donnell. Mick (Stav) Kelly gave a lovely tribute to both men and their families. The New Zealand ambassador to Ireland attended the lunch and game and thoroughly enjoyed himself. The lunch was a big success and set everyone up for the game to follow.
The game saw Blackrock claim a bonus point win and now sees them guaranteed a home semi-final in the playoff against either Nenagh or Barnhall and a very outside chance of winning the league outright if Queens were to slip up in their last game against Dolphin. Our last game sees us travel North to Ballymena on the 15th April. Congratulations to Hugo Godson Treacy, who was voted the Carl Gross Man of the Match.
On Sunday our Under 20's beat Boyne and finished second in their league with one game remaining. They are now hopeful for a good cup run.
The men have a break this week before Easter, but our women play the next round of the AIL cup this Easter Saturday in Stradbrook against Wicklow at 5.00.
So enjoy your Easter and hopefully see you all soon.
