Cara Martin pushes past UL Bohemians in the Women's AIL Cup on 7th January

Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope all club members, supporters, players, coaching teams and management had a great festive period and feel refreshed and ready for the 2nd half of the season. It’s incredible to think we are already at this point but also encouraging to remember that in the bigger picture it’s only half time.

Our Women’s 1st XV unfortunately lost away to UL Bohemians 32-22 in the AIL Cup, a tough one out of the blocks so soon after Christmas. The next match is Suttonians away at 5pm on Saturday with the J1s playing Old Belvedere away on Sunday at 1pm.

While we suffered a setback in the run into Christmas with a few losses for the Men’s 1st XV, we are currently sitting in third position in the table so still in the running for the play-offs. While we are slow to make excuses, we experienced a run of injuries and folks not available to us that would make any club struggle to field a team let alone be competitive. There is nothing in those defeats that has shaken my belief that we will be a contender at the business end of the season.

I hope the team used the break to relax and give themselves some space as they are their own toughest critics, but I believe we are within touching distance of a performance capable of putting anyone in this league away. We have Buccaneers away on Saturday, it would be great if as many as possible made the journey – tough one first up in dry January but the players are deserving of your support.

Short and sweet this week – keep the faith!

See you out there.

Paul
